By allowing organizations to experience the platform’s capabilities first-hand, the PoC service empowers potential customers to make informed decisions and fully understand the value and benefits of an Enterprise Edition subscription.
In the following sections we present the hardware and architectural requirements necessary to begin working with OpenNebula. Stable Software Version – The PoC leverages a more rigorously tested software version with bug fixes and stability enhancements, since it features OpenNebula Enterprise Edition (EE). This ensures higher stability than customers might typically encounter with the Community Edition (CE).
Pre-Installed & Pre-Configured Environment – It eliminates the installation and configuration burden, allowing customers to focus on testing features and evaluating performance rather than troubleshooting setup issues.
Is running an OpenNebula PoC for Me?
Running an OpenNebula PoC in your own environment is an excellent way to explore how OpenNebula operates and evaluate its core functionalities. However, it is important to note that the PoC environment is not designed to precisely replicate your production environment.
The PoC described above provides an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the core functionality of OpenNebula software. PoC vs. Production Cloud Deployment
A Proof of Concept and a Production Cloud Deployment have different objectives, scope, and deliverables.
The objective of a PoC is to evaluate OpenNebula and demonstrate that the platform satisfies a defined set of Success Criteria. To accelerate the evaluation, the environment is deployed with a limited scope and simplified design, using the infrastructure made available for the PoC.
A successful PoC demonstrates that OpenNebula is suitable for the customer’s requirements. It does not mean that the PoC environment has been designed, implemented, and verified as a production cloud.
A Cloud Deployment, by contrast, is a professional services engagement to build the customer’s production-ready OpenNebula environment. It includes architecture design, infrastructure requirements, production configuration, verification, and formal documentation.
Therefore, a PoC should not be considered or handed over as a production deployment. If the customer decides to move to production after a successful PoC, the environment must go through the Cloud Deployment process.
