The OpenNebula team is excited to announce the availability of the OpenNebula 7.2 “Dark Horse” release! While our previous 7.0 “Phoenix” release focused on the transition from legacy virtualization, OpenNebula 7.2 is engineered for production at scale. This release marks a significant evolution, introducing deeper automation, hardware-rooted security, and the high-performance orchestration required to power modern Sovereign Clouds and AI Factories.

OpenNebula 7.2 is a high-performance engine designed to handle the most demanding enterprise workloads. Key highlights of this release include:

Platform Notes

Since OpenNebula version 6.10.3-EE and 6.10.0.1-CE releases include ARM64 packages for all supported operating systems. This initiative aims to extend OpenNebula’s flexibility by enabling deployment on ARM-based servers (both hypervisors and Front-end nodes), opening new possibilities for lightweight, distributed cloud environments.

For the configuration details about ARM64 please refer to ARM64 Specifics.

Compatibility Guide

This guide is aimed at OpenNebula 7.0.x users and administrators who want to upgrade to the latest version. The following sections summarize the new features and usage changes that should be taken into account or could perhaps cause confusion. You can check the upgrade process in the corresponding section. If upgrading from previous versions, please make sure you read all the intermediate versions’ Compatibility Guides for possible pitfalls.

Known Issues

This page will be updated with relevant information about bugs affecting OpenNebula, as well as possible workarounds until a patch is officially published.

Core

OneForm is not properly restarted in a HA setup when the leader changes.

libvirtd restarts in cycles each 10 minutes with error message in system logs, due to the way libvirtd gets activated per interaction by systemd in 120-second slices. As the default interval for the OpenNebula monitor probe is 600 seconds (10 minutes), each time a probe reactivates libvirtd, it sends those messages to syslog.

Guacamole RDP as is currently shipped in OpenNebula does not support NLA authentication. You can follow these instructions in order to disable NLA in the Windows box to use Guacamole RDP within Sunstone.

Acknowledgements
